Field Notes

Description:

Pair of wood ducks with 17 chicks, female mottled brown with dark band down back, male with grey wings and black band down back.

Habitat:

Subtropical edge of town park with pond.

Notes:

You don't usually see these guys with quite so many chicks, but this seems to be a good location for them and there is always at least ten pairs here, at this mating time of year.
