Thank you QWMom, never would have guessed that, never seen a lichen with "roots". What do you think those structures are?
I saw one of these last weekend! And I accidentally stumbled on the ID looking up something else. It's a foliose lichen!! I would never have guessed that - it looks so bryophyte!
Me too! I never paid much attention to bryo's or ferns or licehn but I'm finding them really fascinating right now! And we have such an amazing diversity down here in the SE.
Aye, believe you are correct, wish me luck finding an identity, guess I will need to pick up a bryophyte book.
Moss ally, not fern ally :)
I think it's a hornwort - another fern ally because of those weird conical structures. Fantastic spotting!
