Field Notes

Description:

Tiny Dew Drop spider, Argyrodes sp. (3mm body length)

Habitat:

Web at top of low shrub, adjacent to billabong at Cattana Wetlands, north QLD, Australia

Notes:

A flash of silver caught my eye. It was the tiny Dew Drop spider Argyrodes sp., busily working from one end of the web to the other. They reside in a hosts’ web and often feed on small trapped insects left by the host. I observed it staking its claim, producing a thread and hoisting its meal up and out of sight.
