Field Notes

Description:

Broken carpometacarpus. Note the well developed intermetacarpal tuberosity, how the "spike" below the head of the carpometacarpus bridges the gap completely. Matches for passeriformes, as does the size.

Habitat:

Found among many other small bones under large trees (mostly Australian Pine, unfortunately) surrounding a lake. The bone pile was probably created by decomposed owl pellets.

Notes:

Majority of the bones I could asses in the pile were mammalian, this was one of few avian remains. Makes sense owls can't get too many diurnal birds.
