Field Notes

Description:

Brilliant yellow..like freshly harvested turmeric...and black; a really dazzling combination of colours. Thread waisted.

Habitat:

A biodiversity haven of a garden. This wasp was creating a nest on a DTH receiver! Shyamkhola is an area which is a vanishing biodiversity haven; a part of Kolkata city. A gentleman, now in his nineties or thereabouts has a house here that is home to fantails, civets, snakes and what have you. Because of nesting birds and the fear of snakes he allowed us a limited, but escorted visit, (his wife...a frail, elderly lady) only where there were clear paths.

Notes:

The mud nest is visible. The wasp was working on it.
