Field Notes

Habitat:

Found along the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea throughout the southeastern United States, Central America, the northern tip of South America within several hundred meters of the shore, particularly along estuaries and river banks. It burrows in dense shrubbery, mud, or coastal sand above the tide line.

Notes:

While staying with friends, it seems that getting 2 to 3 of these guys out of their pool every morning is part of the routine. It seems that this color variety is more common on smaller crabs while the larger ones are more grayish blue.
