Field Notes

Habitat:

Chipmunks are abundant in this open habitat that was a pine forest until the beetles killed most of the pines. Elevation 8,373 ft.

Notes:

I found this specimen clinging to the top of the screen of a tall window. I believe the house cat must have chased it there. It stayed there for two hours after I first saw it.

That's nice. Well, iPhone cameras are nothing to sneeze at! These days, their cameras are pretty great. I've used portrait mode to capture some flower photos with my iPhone when I don't have my DSLR.
Thanks mauna. I noticed your squirrel spotting. My stepson lives here. I posted quite a few spottings from near his house last summer. I'm here now and have more to post. I rarely get mammals as I'm not much of a photographer so macro on my iphone works best for me.
PS - thanks for sharing your spotting. I recently came back from the region you're posting from and will upload my chipmunk pictures too! Have many prairie dog pics as well.
N. minimus is probably your best bet. Check out this range map: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/John-Demboski/publication/337291029/figure/fig1/AS:966521945862144@1607448197265/Range-maps-of-the-chipmunk-species-and-sampling-sites-investigated-in-this-study.ppm
