Field Notes

Description:

Adult stink bug and its nymphs from the family Pentatomidae. It may be a Antestiopsis species.

Habitat:

Several adults and nymphs were found on a common mangrove tree, Avicennia alba, which may be its host plant. The smaller black colour nymphs with the eggs, though found on a different plant, were also seen in the same coastal habitat. I believe they are the same bug.

No coffee plant in my former neighborhood either (see habitat description). ;-) But coffee bug is just a common name used because it is the most familiar form within the genus, and scientific names always take precedence over common names. Cheers

Thanks for sharing! Mine is unlikely to be a coffee bug since there was no coffee tree in the area. It is probably related to Antestiopsis cruciata, also found near coastal area. http://gaga.biodiv.tw/9501bx/549.htm

Looks very similar to mine from Papua, unidentified but also speculatively identified as Antestiopsis sp. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/11633019
