Description:

Medium-sized rather stocky heron.
Black face and bill, with white cheek.
Yellowish crown stripe.
Gray body.
Legs yellow.

Habitat:

Sunning themselves in the early morning along the bank of a small pond.

Wonderful! I'm thinking of heading there for my kids' Spring break this year! :)
Thanks! The morning I took this picture was one of the highlights of my life. At least 100 vultures were sunning themselves, dozens of scaups, hooded mergansers, night herons, egrets, etc! Couldn't believe what I was seeing. I'll upload another picture so you can get an idea of how many herons there were together.
