Field Notes

Description:

Large mainly orange fritillary, some 6 to 7 cm of wingspan, with a strong flight.

Habitat:

Widespread throughout Eurasia, very common in Europe mainly on grasslands; here seen in a small valley in Jura mountains. The valley is surrounded by a coniferous forest, and is composed of grassland, peatland and a small glacial lake.
