Field Notes

Description:

It has black plumage, a featherless, grayish-black head and neck, and a short, hooked beak.

Habitat:

It inhabits relatively open areas which provide scattered forests or shrublands. This one was spotted standing on a paved entry road to a parking area at a County nature Preserve. This road has dense thick wooded area on one side. This area was the site for a BLVU nest last year.
