Hi Joshua, nice series! Now, I know the range for this species isn't supposed to reach California but I don't think there is any other species of grasshopper this could be (they are one of my favorites!). I think yours is an adult female green phase. She looks like this: http://bugguide.net/node/view/184091 I saw both brown and green nymphs of this species last summer here in NY. They are super cute nymphs (in my opinion): http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/14850124 http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/13985430 You might want to consider submitting this to Bugguide.net. They don't have any records of them occuring in California and they could verify the species.
