Well, that's certainly closer than big-old-cricket-thing, which is all I had so far. I'll label it as such until I can confirm something different.
Lafcadio, this is a female Katydid. I am leaning towards a species of Sheild-backed Katydid, Subfamily Tettigoniinae, but I am not absolutely sure. Here is a link to Bugguide: http://bugguide.net/node/view/284/bgpage
