Field Notes

Description:

Sad-looking, small stone curlew, some 35 cm in length. Yellow eye and white stripe around it makes it look sad or afraid. Earth-brown overall appearance, with pale wing panel (at rest), bordered with darker stripe above and under the panel. Long yellow green legs.

Habitat:

In this spotting, seen on shores of White Nile, in Jebel Aulia region in a campsite near the dam. While we lived in Khartoum, we used to spend our weekends in this place, the "Escape" campsite, on shores of White Nile. This placed and its neighborhood, laced with acacia and other semi-arid region's vegetation, proved to be a bird-watcher paradise...
