Field Notes

Description:

An overall brown body with the eyes placed on top of the head rather than the sides.

Habitat:

Found in the Gulf of Mexico in shallow waters in coral reefs or grass mats.

Notes:

We seined up the fish in nets, put them in buckets with water so we could see them better. We put them in a tray for just a few seconds so we could take pictures, then they were returned safely to the ocean.

Well there is a species of saltwater crocodile, but alligators have a hard time living in brackish water. We did see a few in fairly saline water, but that's only because they are in a drought down there and there is pretty much no freshwater left :/
crocodiles and alligators cannot survive in brackish waters?
Yes! They aren't open ocean though, most don't get above 4 inches. They are common in coastal waters like estuaries, tidal pools, coral reefs, and are common in brackish water too. Neat little guys!
so these are salt water fish?
