Field Notes

Description:

V. bengalensis is a large monitor lizard, the sri lankan variety is the third largest varan in the world, and in general V. bengalensis is ranging from the Indian subcontinent as well as South-east Asia and West Asia. It grows to become between 60 and 175 cm in length according to wikipedia(personally I have spotted several that could easily be about 2 meters in my childhood and adolecent age). As adults they have few predators hunting them besides humans, the purpose being meat. It is listed at IUCN redlist as NT(near threatened) as of 2021. https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/164579/1058949

Habitat:

Farmland, mixed tropical forest, garden.

Notes:

Noticed a typo on wikipedia, their weight is NOT 7,2 kg, the typo is the comma. They probably weigh up to or more than 72 kg. If I'm wrong about this I'm sorry, but it seems so unlikely that an animal of 175 cm only weigh 7 kilos.
