Description:

The Tiny beauty

At just around 1.5cm it is the smallest and the most colorful night frog i have ever come across. It is an endemic and endangered species.

There were calling from all around.The frogs being small and resting under leaf litter and rocks it was very difficult to see one. All i could do is listen to
their calls. I didn't want to disturb the leaf litter and search, as there were chances of presence of eggs.

Then after about 20 minutes of skimming the surface, this tiny chap showed himself!! It was the only specimen i could see. After taking some images left the place in search of other gems!!

Project Noah Fun Fact: Endemic to the Western Ghats of India, Nyctibatrachus beddomii are semi-terrestrial frogs found in the leaf-litter and under rocks and logs in evergreen and semi-evergreen moist and deciduous forests. It is classified as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List 2006. The Tirunvelveli’s hill frog is also known as the Beddome’s night frog, pigmy night frog and pigmy wrinkled frog.
