Cooper's Hawk - adult
Accipiter cooperii
33.6607, -112.196
Field Notes
Notes:
This small hawk was hiding out in a pine tree at Dos Lagos Park. I could tell that it was a Cooper's Hawk because of its gradually shorter inner tail feathers. If they were all at the same length, it would probably be a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Cooper's Hawks are also bulkier and have thicker tarsi. Juveniles have white breasts with brown streaking whereas adults have an orangeish color to their barred breasts.
