Field Notes

Description:

This moth rests propped on it's splayed wings with it's abdomen hooked into the air. Rich ochre, tan and white tones in wing patterns.

Habitat:

Found high on the wall under strong light at night.

Notes:

Also commonly called Poroporo Fruit Borer in NZ and Eggfruit Caterpillar in Australia.
Note some scales are missing particularly on the nearer wing.
The caterpillars are an agricultural pest on various members of the family Solanacea, tunneling into the stems and fruit.
I wonder if it eats 'Kangaroo apple.' ? .. yes it does... http://esperancewildlife.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/eggfruit-caterpillar-m…
