Field Notes

Description:

Large ground dwelling bird to approx 45cm tall. They sit/stand like statues. Their cryptic colored plumage blends into the background. If you get too close they will start hissing at you. It you get uncomfortably close they will run away fast or fly quite low to the ground. How many can you count in this photo? Guesses??

Habitat:

They have taken up residence in my parents front yard. I counted 15 on this particular day. Some people have garden gnomes, my parents have stone curlews, and they change their poses daily. Priceless!
