Philippine Shrike

The Brown Shrike (Lanius cristatus Linnaeus 1758, Laniidae) has a distinctive black "bandit-mask" through the eye. It is found mainly in open scrub habitats, where it perches on the tops of thorny bushes in search of prey. Subspecies lucionensis Linnaeus 1766, known as the Philippine Shrike (local name: Tarat, Pakis-kis), breeds in Korea and eastern China, and winters mainly in Taiwan, Philippines.
