Description:
The largest waterfowl in North American the trumpeter swan is an impressive bird. It has a wingspan of 6 feet! Adults are all white and juveniles are grey in color. This is obviously a juvenile.
Habitat:
Trumpeter Swans breed in open habitats near shallow water bodies. They winter on estuaries, large lakes, and rivers that remain at least partially ice-free year-round. They sometimes forage in fields.
Notes:
There are swan ponds at Boyle's Hill in Jackson WY. The ponds are there to help increase the swan population. There are some resident swans and some that just pop in . The ponds attract moose, elk, bald eagles, mallards and Canadian geese. The area is managed by the Wyoming Wetlands Society
