Field Notes

Description:

Shrub / tree in our front yard. Smells nice. Have opened up one of the "fruits", the inside is kind of cloved (like a small garlic clove), and smells like actual cloves.

Notes:

A flower and lots of buds recently appeared. The flower appears to be a camelia or some sort. Possibly Camellia japonica.

Camellia species can be grown from seed. These must be last year’s red seed pods on Camellia microphylla. Allow the pod to mature on the plant before collecting the seeds. It will turn brown and actually begin to crack open as the seeds ripen, then you can plant the brown/black seed in a small flower pot, and wait until it germinates, about 3-4 months later (in my case), but the whole procedures takes too long, you need to be patient :)
Just noticed a flower on this one. Looks like it could be a Camelia.
