Field Notes
Description:
Black skink but without a blue tail. Approximately 5 inches long. Very fast. The skin is very shiny.
Habitat:
Skinks reside in wooded areas. This one emerged from beneath my keyhole garden; the bottom 6 inches of which is comprised of wooden material.
Backyard Habitat: The environment is a ‘KeyHole’ vegetable garden. It receives irrigation. Netting provides protection from birds and squirrles. The garden provides for disposal of vegetable wastes which attract flying insect, which in turns attracts our lizards and skinks.
Notes:
This is the first black skink that I have seen in this area. I have resided here for over 20 years.EOL reference is for a blue tailed skink.
