Field Notes

Description:

I apologize for the extreme blurriness of the shots; my photographic hand is not steady as it is and it only added to it by the fact that this butterfly decided to settle right over my head, meaning I had to crane my neck back. However, I am determined to post a photo of it no matter how blurry it is. I THINK it is a Great Eggfly, rebeccab1 has a better photo of it here (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/19272066) though she identifies it as a Magpie Crow. It was a little bigger than 5 cm wide, I should say. Any extra help in ID will be appreciated. Great Eggfly males and females look different, it is an adaption for the males to help attract a female better. The bright spots on its upper wings are to help facilitate this. This is a male.
