Field Notes

Description:

Related to seahorses, pipefish have a long, slender body with a pipe shaped mouth.

Habitat:

Found on coasts in reefs or mats of seaweed in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.

Notes:

I was on a field trip sampling for fish. All the fish we caught were seined up, then we put them in buckets to look at them. The fish was only out of the water for a few seconds for us to take pictures, then were returned to the water when we were done.
