Field Notes

Description:

Red cone on thin stem growing straight up from the ground. No leaves that I could see. Flower grows from the side of the cone.

Habitat:

On the floor of a bamboo grove; the floor was littered with fallen leaves...so if there were leaves of this plant I did not see. It was pretty dark even during the day,

Looks like a flower from the ginger family. They often flower from the ground like this, sometimes away from the parent plant.
