Ruffed Grouse

Image one note the tuft on its head. On image two notice the black tail band. Image three shows footprint in the snow. Caught this image in back of our camp. I stood still close to the tree bark to blend in until it realized we were of no harm, then he/she pecked on the Yellow Birch tree buds and flew off.
