Description:

About two weeks ago, I uploaded my spotting of female golden stag beetles in Brisbane (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1899706002). At the time, all I managed to catch were females and there was no sign of any male, which puzzled me a lot.

Fortunately, a few days after, I finally found two male pupae inside rotten tree trunks. The moment I broke open the log and saw a male pupa lying insde its chamber was beyong what the words can describe. It seems years of painstakingly searching for lamprima finally comes to fruition. The third photo of this spotting captures the exact moment when I found my first male lamprima.

I took the pupae home and they emerged a few days later.

Habitat:

They live in rotten tree truncks in dry forests
