Field Notes

Description:

The tree is some sort of palm, so it has no flowers or fruit. The tree has no trunk - the leaves just come up out of the ground. The leaf shape is linear and they are very long - about 280 cm by about 70 cm. The margins are entire and the arrangement is opposite. The leaves' texture is smooth. There was a snail on top of one of the leaves and some sort of bug had chewed a hole through another. There were lots of ants and other bugs crawling along the stem.

The first picture above is of the tree, the second is a close-up of one of the leaves, and the third is a shadow of the same leaf.

Habitat:

Secondary rainforest - found in a sunny spot.
