Field Notes

Description:

Lycaenidae; Lycaeninae; Polyommatini; Jamides espada sabatus Fruhstorfer 1915.

Habitat:

Spotted at the roadside at around 200 to 250 ft. elevation. This small road was being given a concrete surface and the butterfly was sitting on the sandy-gritty material which had been thrown down prior to the concrete being poured. It was astonishing to watch this butterfly apparently sipping the liquid from these wet materials. The water surely contained high levels of chemicals from the cement.

Notes:

My identification of this specimen is a little insecure. Any helpful suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you.
