Description:

These are fiddleheads of the Christmas Fern, which were about 12 to 15 inches high. Christmas Fern is an evergreen fern

Habitat:

Native to eastern North America from Nova Scotia west to Minnesota and south to Florida and eastern Texas. This one was spotted in a moist deciduous forest in the midlands of South Carolina. This one was photographed at the Savannah River Bluffs Heritage Preserve in North Augusta, South Carolina.

Notes:

It is one of the most common ferns in eastern North America, being found in a wide variety of habitats and locations.
