Field Notes

Description:

Genus: Calliphora. Head and thorax dull gray/black. Abdomen is bright metallic blue and black and hairy. Deep red, large eyes. Large transparent wings. 1/2 inch long (13 mm). Adults feed on nectar. Adults are pollinators to strong odor flowers. Larvae feed on dead animals.

Habitat:

Sunning itself on the house near woodlands and meadow.

U know I am insane when I get excited over a fly and a ladybug. LOL
You and me both, I am working outside at the minute and can't wait to not put on 10 layers of clothes to go out in! the weather teased us here at the weekend and turned really nice, even saw some Bees!!! but then it turned back wintry again :( as for the ID you may want to wait for someone more informed to confirm it? we have quite a few of them here in summer and they are always getting stuck in the house.
