Field Notes

Description:

butterfly about 45mm wingspan, kept the wings open after alighting on a flower. This is a female in wet season livery; the black markings in particular are reduced and individuals are much more white in the dry season, the dark areas at the root of the wings becomes pale grey but does not disappear. The male has less black than the female especially in the orange wing tips.

Habitat:

on disturbed ground by a rehabilitated borrow pit along the roadside, shallow soils with weedy flowers.
