Field Notes
Description:
Beautiful brown moth with tan stripes and a 3 inch wingspan. Its hindwing has a wide pink band. This family is also known as Hawk Moths. Habitat:
Backyard resting on a Scilla sp. "Its range extends from Central America, through the United States and into parts of Canada."
Notes:
"The adult of this species is a key pollinator of the rare lemon lily (Lilium parryi) in California." The caterpillars eat Willow weed (Epilobium), Four o'clock (Mirabilis jalapa), Apple (Malus), Evening primrose (Oenothera), Elm (Ulmus), Grape (Vitis), Tomato (Lycopersicon), Purslane (Portulaca), and Fuchsia.
