Field Notes

Description:

Funny thing - I just discovered this was NOT thistle, but a member of Apiaceae family. Herbaceous perennial, about 50cm tall, with spectacularly bluish spherical flowerheads in terminal position; and bluish spiny bracts.

Habitat:

Seen in an ancient cemetery in hinterland of Dubrovnik, in hills covered by a maquis. Hills are rocky and often steep, and covered by a evergreen shrubs and mixed Mediterranean forests.
