Field Notes

Description:

Small hawk. Colors vary with age. This is an adult hawk. Dark grey crown, grey back and wings. Reddish bars under wings and under parts. Dark bands on tail. Stocky orange feet and red eyes.

Habitat:

Wooded areas, forests and backyards especially with bird feeders.

Notes:

While spotting smaller birds I heard the hawk and this Cooper's snatched one and flew into a tree. Couldn't get closer before it took off over a house.
