Trichoglossus haematodus

Field Notes
Description:
Rainbow Lorikeets getting up to no good. This group have developed an extremely bad habit: a taste for refined sugar. They raid the sugar containers at one of the local cafes at Terrigal Beach. They make lots of noise and a mighty big mess, not only with sugar, but also bird droppings on the furniture... and sometimes on patrons. It's not until the lady comes along with the 'big red broom' to chase them off that they take any notice. Until then, for them, it's sugary business as usual and that is not good for them!!! Information on the species can be found at one of my previous spottings in Brisbane - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/21732399
