Field Notes

Description:

We had to get up early in the morning to spot this large Toucan in the forests of Asa Wright's as they only tend to be spotted either first or last thing in the day but he couldn't have got much further away from us if he had tried!
Like other toucans, the Channel-billed is brightly marked and has a huge bill. It is typically 48 cm (19 in) long with a 9–14 cm (3½-5½ in) bill.

Habitat:

seen in the mountainous rainforests of Trinidad where it breeds, its an arboreal fruiteater and can be found in Trinidad and in tropical South America as far south as southern Brazil and central Bolivia.
