Cranbrook, I am pretty confident this is a raccoon. However, I don't beleive I have asked you about size yet. Do you remember the length of this skull? Pictures can be deceiving! Have you compared this skull to any of the other raccoon skulls in this mission? Here are some links: If the pictures in the links below look like the skull you found, consider changing this spotting from Unknown "bones" to raccoon Procyon lotor. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/15787372 http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/11958582 http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7680698
It would be cool if it was a racoon skull! Thanks for commenting Emily! Also, i will try to add it to that mission.
I believe this is a raccoon skull! Please consider adding this to the "Identifying Animals Through Osteology" Mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8475425
My first guess is a striped skunk, they kinda have the shortened skull like a cat but not as round. The size looks about right too. But to be certain closer pictures with more views would be best.
Do you have any closer views? At this distance it will be difficult to tell exactly what it was. I would say a mammal of some sort, possibly a Raccoon or Opossum.
