Yellow-bellied Sunbird

Small bird 10-12cms, with comparatively long curved beak. Sunbirds love to build their nests on hanging items. This nest was built on a loose piece of clothes line under the eaves of my house. On one occasion the nest blew around in a strong breeze and one of the eggs fell out onto the tiles. During the next breeding season an Australian Magpie-lark (Peewee) attacked the nest which resulted in all the eggs being broken. In the 2 photos, the breeding was a success. Both mum (pic 1) and dad (pic 2 - throat and breast iridescent dark blue) were very attentive, keeping a constant supply of food to the babies. It was a happy day to see the fledglings.
