Field Notes

Description:

decidious shrub with lots of branches and banchlets; this one was about 6 feet all but they get taller; leaves are grey-green some small with smooth edges and larger ones with shallow lobes are semi-evergreen; this sample picked in the late fall shows the most significant landscape feature of the white almost silvery, plume-like achenes on female plants that look like paintbrushes.

Habitat:

side of the road on the edge of the woods

Notes:

The other name is Sea-Myrtle and despite that fact that we are no where near the sea this shrub does well here and can be "tree-sized"
