Field Notes

Description:

This beautiful spiders body was almost 2cm in length with plae yellow, orange & black patterns. Tent Spiders build tent-shaped webs between plants and bushes. The tent-shaped web of this spider was around 70cm, but the web used to attach it stretched to almost 2 metres. Unlike the other spider webs, the webs of Tent Spiders do not have sticky silk. The spiders rest upside down in the middle of the tent from day to night. In summer females make egg-sacs hanging above the middle of their tent web. It was an absolute work of art. I must thank my neighbour for this spotting. It was strung above his friends boat.

Habitat:

Urban.

Wow, the second shot of the web is amazing. I can see now why they're called 'tent spiders'.
