Field Notes

Description:

This breed of cat is one of the largest and is native to North America. Male MC’s can weigh between 10-18 pounds while females average a smaller weight of 10-12 pounds. Maine Coons are different from other cats in the way that they keep growing past their one year mark. Most Maine Coons do not reach their full weight till they are four years old. Maine Coons were found in Maine and were used to help control the population of mice. People do not really know what the ancestor of this breed of cat is because it is so big and has such distinct features. An interesting fact about this cat is that they tend to like water (Pet).
