Field Notes

Description:

This is a small dry-land kingfisher, size of blackbird, some 15 to 18 cm in length. It sports whitish collar and striped breast and flanks, black and red bill and grey-streaked crown. Missing on pics is the back side - mainly blue and black.

Habitat:

Common African dry-land kingfisher, often found woodlands, forest edges and savanna. Here, observed in such area, mainly savanna and woodland bordering the road in Niger State of Nigeria.

Notes:

Shot quickly from a moving car, these clicks survived my screening in spite of low quality as this was another lifer for me from Nigeria - as I'm going through these files, I'm still counting species I never encountered before. In this regard, I must say that Nigeria trip was really good to me!
