Actually... Poison Ivy can be a small shrub, vine, or single small plant, depending on the circumstances. It does like shady areas. When it vines up a tree, the vine is "hairy". Well do be on the look out for it in your current neck of the woods because that is one of its main habitats. To my knowlege the primary difference is that poison oak is a small shrub with somewhat lobed leaves that occur in threes. Poison ivy is always a vine sometimes with clinging tendrils that have adhesive pads at their ends.
Ok... I should know this, but we didnt have much poison oak in PA. How to differentiate between poison OAK and poison IVY?
