Field Notes

Description:

Marine or water growth, lots of these between the convergence of the two streams and the river mouth, which is supposed to be blocked off from the sea by an artificial sand barrier but this has been breached, as on many occasions, see picture 2. Every high tide the sea water floods in, then at low tide much of the water drains out. Picture 3 is taken from near the same spot looking the other way at low tide. At high tide this area is completely under water. Zoom in on the map view to get an idea of how it appears at mid-tide.

Habitat:

Coastal lagoon and wetland reserve. The lagoon is supposedly freshwater, fed by a river which sometimes breaks through the narrow sand barrier into the sea which also allows salt water to get in. A system of bunds is supposed to stop salt water reaching all parts.
