Field Notes

Description:

I found these Handsome Fungus Beetles resting on a -you guessed it- fungus! I have yet to identify this fungus, but it was growing on the side of a tree. The beetles' carapaces were jet black with four yellow dots on its back, possibly for predator deterrence. They also had hard exoskeletons, antennae, and six legs with claw-like appendages for gripping mushrooms.

Habitat:

This was found in a secondary rainforest on a sunny day in Singapore. It was given partial shade by medium-size trees above it. I found these bugs resting on an outgrowing fungus on a tree, about 1 foot off the ground.

Notes:

I tried to take as many photos of this as I could. One beetle was on the top of the fungus, the rest were on the underside.
