Description:

Great Spotted Woodpecker is a medium sized black and white member of Picinae family. It also sports bright red vent; and the male is recognised by red spot on the nape (edges visible on the photo).

Habitat:

This shy male was foraging on branches under our window, semi-urban but very green (that is, when not covered by snow) area close to a wooded town park; just in between our famous Jura Mountain Range and lake Leman (Geneva).
