Field Notes

Description:

A very common butterfly about 45-55mm wingspan. Very common in the lower elevations of eastern Himalaya. It flies between 570 and 1350 m from October to December. In Bhutan, it is found throughout the year (800 to 1800 m).

Habitat:

Both sexes are similar to Dark Brand Bushbrown but larger. Variable seasonally. In Dry Season Form (DSF), FW apex sharply pointed and termen straight. In Wet Season Form (WSF), both apex and termen more rounded. UPF eyespot prominent in WSF. Male has brown to pale brown brand on UNF, and another pale brown brand on UPH.
